Qualified artists of note are being sought for
inclusion in the first annual Y- Bridge Arts Festival. The
purpose of the festival is to establish an annual art event that
attracts art lovers throughout the region, and to celebrate the
already rich heritage of art and craft production in this
area. Zanesville’s Y- Bridge, long associated as a unique
civil engineering construction, is the site for this cultural
event. The opening date of this two- day event is Friday,
August 7, and Saturday, August 8, 2009. Located on the
confluence of the Muskingum and Licking rivers, near downtown
Zanesville, this historic site attracts thousands of visitors per
year. Zanesville is an easy one hour drive east from Columbus
on interstate 70, or twenty five minutes west from the intersection
of I-77 and I-70 near Cambridge
In establishing this first
ever celebration, the planning committee is seeking artists and crafts persons of
quality whose work will insure that the festival is seen
as an important and noteworthy event. Complementing this main attraction will be
related arts activities, fun events for all ages, as well as
entertainment. Additional information will become available as details are
completed.
Exhibitors can
expect to be given a quarter of the 20 X 20 foot tent space [10 X 10
each]. A table and two chairs will be provided. Beyond this, the exhibitor must provide their own
display racks. As the tents are located on the bridge proper, which
has a gentle curve, artists are encouraged to bring any leveling
devices they might desire to level display racks and the like.
A recent decision by the planning Committee to drop all fees for
this inaugural event is intended to encourage
participation.
The Y- Bridge
Festival organizers will make every attempt to safeguard artist’s
work and property, but liability rests ultimately with the
artist. Police protection and related overnight security will
be provided.

Even so, artists
are encouraged to remove valuables when they leave their assigned
area for periods of time, particularly overnight. Volunteers
will be available should you need an occasional break from your
booth. Participating artists may bring one art work to a V.I.P.
location at the festival for award consideration. The
criterion will include technical proficiency, personal style, and
originality.

During the 48
hours our famous Y-Bridge is closed to general traffic, its spans are
transformed into a stunning outdoor art gallery as the nation's top
artists display their work and attract art enthusiasts from all over the
region.
The Y-Bridge Arts Festival, held on Friday, August 7th, 2009 from 6 pm to 11 pm and Saturday, August 8th, 2009 from 10 am to 11 pm, features fantastic gourmet fare from some of the city's finest local restaurants, live concerts, hands-on art activities and more. In addition to hosting local artists, this event will attract nationally acclaimed artists and fine craftspeople to live and work in our historic downtown.
We propose utilizing the Y-Bridge (the only bridge exactly like it in the world) to provide this arts festival with an
immediate and distinctive identity, a distinctive setting, as well as international recognition. Once our festival is
established, it has the potential to infuse additional tourist dollars into the local economy as well as achieve national
recognition for our historic city.
The Y-Bridge Arts Festival provides a wonderful opportunity to draw thousands of visitors to Zanesville and supporting an
event on this scale clearly highlights the city’s commitment to revitalize its downtown through the arts. Volunteers will assist in organizing every aspect of the festival as well as seeking state and local grants, sponsors and
underwriters.
